Labels Berlin is situated on Stralauer Allee, on the border of the
Friedrichshain and Kreuzberg districts. Radiant and with particular flair,
it is a convenient location close to the heart of the city, right on the
Spree River. Here, in the historic Osthafen harbor surroundings,
a listed warehouse was revitalized for Labels Berlin.
In former times, the Osthafen – built from 1907 to 1913 between the
bridges Oberbaumbrücke and Eisenbrücke – had an annual handling of
up
to 2,5 million tons of goods. Presently, the harbor is gradually downsized,
utilizing the area and buildings worthy of preservation. In 2002 e.g.,
Universal Music moved into the oldest building, the former cold warehouse
for eggs from 1828/29, on the western end of the harbor. The adjacent
storehouse was also reconstructed and transformed into an interesting
office- and presentation building.
Another architectural highlight is the renovated warehouse that became
home of the broadcast station MTV in the spring of 2004.
With Labels Berlin, the Osthafen area gets an attractive fashion order
platform of international significance, a plan that is also promoted
energetically on the municipal level.
